EFFORTS TO IMPROVE SOCIAL STUDIES LEARNING OUTCOMES FOR GRADE IV STUDENTS USING VISUAL MEDIA AT SDN 205/VI AIR BATU II

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of using visual aids (image media) on the learning outcomes of fourth-grade students in Social Studies (IPS) at SDN 205/VI Air Batu II. The primary issue addressed in this study is the students' low academic performance, with 50% scoring below the Minimum Mastery Criteria (KKM) of 70. The study employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted over two cycles, involving 20 students. Data collection utilized a test instrument consisting of multiple-choice questions to measure learning outcomes. The results indicate an improvement in student learning outcomes, evidenced by an increase in the percentage of students meeting the KKM. In Cycle I, the passing rate reached 66%, despite a classroom environment that was not yet fully conducive to learning. In Cycle II, the passing rate rose to 77%, accompanied by a learning atmosphere that became more active, effective, and enjoyable. In conclusion, the use of visual aids has a positive impact on improving students' Social Studies learning outcomes.
